Paparazzi

We were out exploring the world today.  I turned around to find this staring at me:

Mount Mitchell

Frequent readers of this blog will know that my most favouritist (<-- that is a word - trust me) road in the world is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is up yonder in them there hills (picture in your minds eye me pointing towards the Appalachian mountains, while taking a swig of 'shine from a clay jug).

So it would not be a surprise that I have been wanting to drive some more along the Blue Ridge Parkway for most of the winter.

Unfortunately it was closed most of the season due to snow (they don't do snow removal or salting in the park, so a bit of snow or ice could make for some excess rode-wise treachery.

So I was chuffed to find out that the majority of the parkway was opened last week.  I say the majority as a section between Mount Mitchell and Asheville is closed for construction.  However that does give me a good hour and a half drive - one way - so I took that deal, got in the Geovan of Destiny, and drove off with a squeal of tires and a roar of the engine as I accelerated off at the posted legal speed limit.

Mount Mitchell is the highest point east of the Mississippi, and you can drive almost to the very top.  So I parked up, and walked the 2/10ths of a mile to the tippy top. (I have proof).
The very top is a slightly elevated observation deck.  If you see what I see, the odds didn't look good for epic views...

The top was mostly socked in with mist.  It was actually cool watching the mist flow over the peaks, but it was still mist, so this was the best view I got.
So I decided to cut my visit short and head home.   I am glad I did, because on the way I saw this amazing sight:
A  nice ending to an amazing ride, don'tcha think?

The 17th Round of the Chrysta Rae Scavenger Hunt

Another round of the Chrysta Rae Photo Scavenger Hunt has come and gone.  The Scavengers are an amazing group of photographers.  We are given 10 words, and 2 months to come up with our take on a photo that captures the essence of that word.

I've participated a bunch of times now (you can check out my entries for pervious hunts here. These are my entires for this round:

Amused - My worst shot this hunt.
Cinnamon - My one Lego-free shot, but here is why:

She was doing a dance routine when a Lego Man jumped up from the crowd and hopped on stage.  Since she was in the middle of a pirouette, she didn't notice him, and put her foot down right on top of him.

Anyone who has ever stepped on a lego with bare feet knows how much that hurts, well dancers in dancing shoes are no exception.  Screaming in pain she tried to pull her foot up off the lego. However she was off balance due to the pirouette, and she slipped, falling squarely  onto the Lego Man. He was killed instantly.  When she fell she cracked her head  on the stage, and lapsed into unconsciousness.  That is when my shutter clicked.

She was revived shortly after by cracking a cinnamon stick under her nose.

Glue - Take equal parts chameleon and minifig, make one delicious to the other, and you get this shot here.

Melt - It is actually very easy to burn a minifig, and harder to melt them.

Perception - a call to action.

Poison - Palace intrigue.  Never trust the Jester.

Unsophisticated - look ma, the fuse is lit!

White - a high key storm trooper.

If you like what you see here, follow Chrysta Rae, and be ready for the next rounds sign-ups on Monday March 14th, at noon Mountain time.
